KUWAIT: A total of 229 people were arrested during a wide scale crackdown carried out at Mahboula on Thursday, the Interior Ministry announced yesterday. The campaign, which was supervised by a number of senior ministry officials led by Undersecretary Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad, started at 5:00 pm as police cordoned the area completely to prevent lawbreakers from escaping.

The detainees include two persons arrested on criminal charges, 120 wanted for absconding, four for violating labor regulations, 13 with expired visas and 61 who failed to produce IDs. Meanwhile, one person was arrested for theft and one on liquor-related charges. They were all sent to the proper authorities for further action.

The campaign was carried out as part of the Interior Ministry's ongoing crackdowns to fight crime in coordination with the relevant state departments, the Relations and Security Media Department said in a statement.
