KUWAIT: More than 300 children with disabilities were subjected to violence in schools in Kuwait last year, a recent study shows. Official statistics published by Al-Qabas yesterday indicate that 330 students were subjected to ‘verbal and physical abuse’ last year at schools for children with special needs, which fall under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, the statistics show that psychiatrists and social workers handled 467 cases of behavioral disorders that resulted from disabled children being subjected to violence and mistreatment, as well as failure to enroll the children in specialized rehabilitation programs.

Furthermore, the statistics revealed that students with mental disabilities were subjected to the most number of violence cases with 100, while there were 41 cases of students who ‘ran away’ from class. — Al-Qabas
