KUWAIT: The Interior Ministry announced yesterday that residency detectives arrested 34 illegal residents, a majority of them domestic helpers with article 20 residencies, who had absconded from their sponsors and worked on daily wages for others in violation of the labor law.

Residency detectives also arrested eight people working in a fake domestic help office in Abu Halifa against which several fraud cases had been filed by citizens, who all reported paying the fees for getting domestic helpers without actually receiving any through the office.

Security sources added that all expat suspects arrested would be referred to relevant authorities and would be immediately deported, while their sponsors would also be held responsible and blacklisted over future sponsorships.
