KUWAIT: Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the late Khalid Al-Ghunaim Annual 9 Ball Tournament said the latest Championship was a vital event in the history of the tournament since its launch in 1984, adding that it completed all the requirements that qualify it to be one of the major championships.
He said the top 10 players worldwide participated and the number of professional players who registered was 128 including American Sahne Van Boening, German Legend Ralf Souquet and players from America, Italy, Poland, Philippines, Japan and Germany in addition to Arab and Gulf and Kuwait players.
Al-Ghunaim said the organizing committee plans to develop the women competition, which was introduced for the first time in the championship. He said the level shown by Kuwait plays shows that they have skilled players who can go far in the billiards game, adding that “through Ghunaim Championship we will provide suitable atmosphere and opportunities to allow the players improve their skills.” Meanwhile, world champion Sane Van Boenign said he was happy to win the title of the late Khalid Al-Ghunaim championship.
