KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah referred Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali to retirement and promoted him to Lieutenant General. No decision has been made so far to name a replacement for Ali as the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for General Security. Before being appointed to his most recent post, Ali served as the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs.

Police killer remanded

A local court yesterday remanded in custody citizen Abdul Aziz Waleed Al-Shamlan, who is accused of ramming his vehicle into a checkpoint near Dasman Palace, killing a policeman and injuring others.

Fintas Group

The criminal court yesterday adjourned hearing the 'Fintas Group' state security case in which 13 people including a ruling family member, lawyers and bloggers are involved, till March 28. Notably, the judge warned the defendants' lawyer that this would be the last postponement and that any further requests would be denied. The defendants are facing charges of slandering HH the Amir and endangering Kuwait's security through spreading rumors and misleading information.

'Masked civilian'

Lawyer Humoud Al-Hajri said that the public prosecution had referred a complaint filed by former MP Musallam Al-Barrak about a 'masked civilian' who searched his cell for further investigations.

Telecom towers

The Municipal Council's legal and financial committee agreed to amend some articles in the telecom towers' charter that had been languishing in drawers for long because of technical and administrative disputes, as the committee had banned building such towers in residential areas and hospitals. Moreover, committee chairman Mane Al-Ajmi said that the committee also referred a project on processing solid waste and utilizing it to the legal department and discussed several other topics in its meeting.

Patients' allowances

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor's (MSAL) Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development Affairs Hassan Kazem stressed that the ministry was awaiting the Ministry of Health's (MoH) decision on allowances for patients receiving treatment overseas. He added that MSAL seeks to prevent double payment if patients were already paid allowances for companions.

Prices at co-ops

The Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies (UCCS) price follow up committee yesterday made a sudden inspection visit to Adailiya Co-op where three citations of violating UCCS' pricing list were issued, for selling some items at lower prices in a sale promotion without permission from the ministry of commerce. Chairman Sami Munaikh stressed that the tour is part of the committee's efforts to make sure all co-ops fully respect UCCS' unified prices.

Fourth Ring Road

Speaking at MP Faisal Al-Shaye's diwaniya in Rawda, Assistant Undersecretary for Road Engineering Ahmed Al-Hessan at the Ministry of Public Aorks (MPW) stressed that MPW was keen on developing various roads, especially inner ones in densely populated areas, to avoid congestions during rush hours, including Rawda. Hessan added that MPW was currently studying two projects to develop the Fourth Ring Road to increase its capacity and reduce traffic accidents.
