KUWAIT: On January 26, the Embassy of Vietnam in Kuwait hosted a reception at the Al-Kout Beach Hotel (where the first Vietnamese coffee shop is located) to celebrate the Lunar New Year, on the occasion of the holiday - getting its recognition from the United Nations. The reception welcomed people from the Vietnamese community, ambassadors, UN representatives and other dignitaries in Kuwait.

As one of the Asian countries celebrating the Lunar New Year festival, which often falls on late January and early February each year, Vietnam has its own traditions and customs that have been practiced through many generations. Coming to the reception, guests got the chance to taste traditional cuisine served by the Vietnamese chef, Hieu Le and have calligraphy writings from Hoang Ngo – who is staying in Kuwait for an upcoming art exhibition.

The reception was also lit up by performances from the Vietnamese students who are studying the Arabic language in the Kuwait University. Thanking the Vietnamese community for supporting the Embassy’s work in the past years, Ambassador Ngo Toan Thang reiterated the importance and meaning of the Lunar New Year – also known as “Tet” – which is to reunite family members and look back on the achievements and memories in the past year.

Ambassador Ngo Toan Thang took the time to send his best wishes for the upcoming Lunar New Year, hoping that the Vietnamese community will contribute to the development of Kuwait, proudly representing the home country in the area, contributing to the relationship between Vietnam and Kuwait. Previously, in a resolution adopted on December 22, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly “acknowledges the significance of Lunar New Year which is observed in many Member States” – a big step towards the international community’s recognition of traditional Asian culture in a world of diverse culture and harmony.
