Sheikh Sabah applauds firefighters for saving lives, properties

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Tuesday praised the honorable role and efforts by police personnel to restore security and enforce laws as well as serve citizens. This came during a speech by His Highness the Amir while visiting the Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's building at the Ministry of Interior's Headquarters. His Highness the Amir expressed his pleasure to meet alongside His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman of National Guard Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as well as accompanying brothers to exchange greetings on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. He told the police personnel that they have repeatedly proven that the police institution is able to preserve the safety of citizens, and protect both private and public properties during the heavy rains that hit the country last year. He said such efforts, made in collaboration with other concerned bodies, were highly appreciated by both nationals and residents.

"The security system is the main pillar of the potentials of every society. Through making success by your personnel, tranquility prevails amongst the society's individuals. This contributes to the building of a righteous society through which the home is developed," His Highness the Amir said. His Highness the Amir has reiterated that the state is continuing support the Ministry of Interior to upgrade all its sectors and raise the efficiency of all personnel as well as provide the most modern equipment and devices needed by the Ministry to help it play its vital role. His Highness the Amir also extolled direct and indirect communications by police personnel with nationals and residents, via social media, to disseminate security culture and laws so as to curb crimes and deter those who try to destabilize the country.

Repugnant phenomena
Highness the Amir referred to the spread of some repugnant phenomena like drugs and violation of law by some careless drivers, saying such phenomena are rejected by "our conservative and peaceful society." "Such acts are not related to our identity and culture, and distort the civilized image of our dear homeland. This requires you (addressing police personnel) to intensify your efforts so as to reduce the spread of these phenomena through enforcing laws and using the most effective legal means to eliminate these phenomena," His Highness the Amir noted. Finally, His Highness the Amir prayed to Allah Almighty to help all people make success to serve their dear homeland, and to bless the souls of martyrs with mercy in Paradise.
Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Lieutenant General Essam Al-Nahham said the police forces would always remain committed to application of the law and deter every attempt against the country's security, but with a guarantee on freedom. Nahham said the police personnel worked relentlessly during last year's floods and carried out rescue operations and secured smooth traffic throughout the heavy rain, in collaboration with the army, national guard, firefighters and other state institutions. He said the rate of crime, theft and possession of arms and ammunition has declined, and the Ministry of Interior adopted a strategy aimed at cracking down on human trafficking, improve human rights and rights of the child. The Interior Ministry, said Nahham, intensified its campaign against drugs, and installed 3,000 monitoring cameras in 300 mosques nationwide.

Saving lives
Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah praised firefighters for saving lives and properties, and their bravery in dealing with dangerous incidents. His Highness the Amir made the remarks during a visit to Kuwait Fire Service Directorate's (KFSD) headquarters, commending firefighters for their efforts during last year's floods. His Highness the Amir expressed his pleasure to meet alongside His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman of National Guard Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah with the firefighters to exchange greetings on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
He urged firefighters to make sure buildings were complying with safety standards, and told them they should intensify their inspection of properties and not exclude any violator in order to protect people and properties. His Highness the Amir urged firefighters to raise public awareness on best practices to deal with accidents, especially fires.
KFSD Director General Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Mekrad said the Directorate realized many achievements and succeeded in protecting people and properties, as well as preserving national economy citing last year's floods. He said the annual Shamel exercise, held this year under patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister, brought together 30 government institutions to show the collective efforts of state department to deal with emergencies. Mekrad said KFSD succeeded in reducing fire accidents by eight percent compared to last year despite growing population and facilities. KFSD, he added, has been contributing to completion of mega development projects to make sure they meet safety standards, citing Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Causeway, Kuwait International Airport, Sabah Al-Salem University City and Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital. - KUNA
