Summit important for regional stability, security: Qatari Amir

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem, and Deputy Chief of the Kuwait National Guard Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, ahead of attending the 38th Gulf Cooperation Council (GGC) Summit yesterday.

Receiving the Qatari Amir at Kuwait International Airport were His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister for Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anas Al-Saleh, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Information Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, ministers and senior officers in the military, police, National Guard and Kuwait Fire Services Directorate.

Regional stability

Sheikh Tamim had hoped that the 38th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit would contribute to the security and stability of the region. In a press statement upon his arrival at the airport, Sheikh Tamim expressed sincere gratitude towards His Highness the Amir and the Kuwaiti people for their warm generosity and hospitality. Sheikh Tamim stressed that the current situation in the region required the council's members to band together against all odds and challenges.

His Highness the Amir also received representative of Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir, as well as representative of Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed of Oman, Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Fahad bin Mahmoud Al-Saeed, and Bahrain's chief delegate Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Mubarak Al Khalifa. Senior Kuwaiti officials also attended the meetings.

The representative of Sultan Qaboos of Oman said meanwhile that he was ‘honored’ to have attended the summit. In a statement upon his arrival, the Omani official conveyed the greetings of Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed to Gulf state representatives and said he hoped the talks would reach the six-nation bloc's aspired goals in support of integration.

"Oman profoundly expresses its appreciation of the efforts of Kuwait and its leadership to bridge the gap, coordinate positions and align viewpoints amongst member states in order to address all developments," he said. "These efforts have the full backing of the Sultanate of Oman," he added, in their aim to "boost security and stability in the region and achieve the aspirations of Gulf people for a better future." – KUNA
