Sheikh Sabah receives water association, conference committee members

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah phoned Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Monday to condemn the sabotage acts carried out against four oil tankers near UAE territorial waters on Sunday. In his call, His Highness the Amir denounced the sabotage acts and hoped the investigations launched by the UAE authorities would reveal the perpetrators of those acts that threaten the maritime navigation, international trade, and world energy supplies. His Highness the Amir wished the UAE and the whole region everlasting stability and security.

In other news, His Highness the Amir received yesterday at Bayan Palace Minister of Social Affairs Saad Ibrahim Al-Kharraz and Chairman of the Kuwait Water Association Dr Saleh Mohammad Al-Muzaini and its members. His Highness also received head of the supervisory committee of a conference dubbed 'Our Unity is Our Strength' Yousef Muhalhal Al-Yassin and members of the committee. The meeting was attended by Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah. Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received separately at Bayan Palace His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Meanwhile, His Highness the sent yesterday cables of condolences to the Lebanese President Michel Aoun and the Maronite Patriarch for Antioch and the East Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi on the demise of former Cardinal Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, Maronite Patriarch of Antiochia. In the cables, His Highness the Amir underlined Sfeir's pivotal role in the service of Lebanon and his distinguished national contributions to consolidating the bonds of the Lebanese nation and promoting the unity of the Lebanese people throughout his life. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables.

In the meantime, His Highness the Amir praised the strong bilateral relations with Algeria. In a letter to Algeria's interim president Abdelkader Ben Saleh on Monday night, His Highness the Amir asserted both countries' everlasting keenness to bolster frameworks of cooperation in various spheres so as to serve joint interests of both countries, according to a statement by the Algerian Presidency. The statement pointed out that Ben Saleh expressed his country's support of Kuwait's efforts aimed at consolidating ties among Arab states. "His Highness the Amir expressed to the Head of State his views on the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries on all issues at the regional and international levels as well as its efforts on resolving disputes and brodging the gap between brothers," the statement said. On May 5, Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum paid a working visit to Kuwait at the invitation of his counterpart Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, during which he was received by His Highness the Amir and handed him a letter from the Head of State, Abdelkader Ben Saleh. - KUNA
