Amir's pardon paves way for political resolution in Kuwait

KUWAIT: The following is a report on major events related to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah throughout 2021:

Jan 5: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah lauded the 41st GCC Summit, named after late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and late Sultan Qaboos of Oman, that took place in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, for signing an agreement of unity among the six GCC countries.

Jan 6: Kuwait's Amir awarded Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah the Kuwaiti Order of the First Degree, for his distinguished efforts in the GCC.

Jan 18: Kuwait's Amir accepted the resignation of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Jan 24: Kuwait's Amir signed a decree naming His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled as Prime Minister and assigned him to submit his Cabinet's line-up to be approved.

Feb 16: Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center (JACC) unveiled a glass sculpture given by the US embassy on the 30th anniversary of Kuwait's liberation, in a ceremony patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Feb 17: An Amiri decree was issued to adjourn the National Assembly sessions for a month starting as of February 18, 2021 according to article 106 of Kuwaiti constitution.

March 2: Kuwait's Amir issued a decree forming a new Cabinet chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

March 3: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received the new Cabinet in an oath taking ceremony.

March 4: Kuwait's Amir departs for US for regular medical tests.

March 14: Kuwait's Amir departs to Europe after successful medical examinations in the US.

March 29: His Highness the Amir received a phone call from Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and they discussed the Middle East Green Initiative and plans to plant 50 billion trees as the largest green program in the world.

April 8: Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah delivered a written message from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding relations between the two friendly countries and means of boosting these ties in various spheres as well as issues of common concern.

May 4: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad addressed a written message to the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Dr Mohammad Younes Al-Manfi, related to means of bolstering the solid ties between the two countries. The letter was delivered by Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad.

May 5: His Highness the Amir sent a letter to Algerian President Abdulmajid Tebboune regarding the deep-rooted bilateral relations.

May 7: His Highness the Amir sent a letter to King of Morocco Mohammad VI, which touched on the strong relations linking the countries and means to develop them.

Oct 20: Minister of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah announced that His Highness the Amir assigned Parliament Speaker, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Judicial Council to propose amnesty criteria on a group of Kuwaiti convicts in order to pardon them.

Oct 26: His Highness the Amir inaugurated the second regular term of the 16th legislative session of the National Assembly.

Nov 8: His Highness the Amir received His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled who presented the Cabinet's resignation.

Nov 13: The official gazette published two decrees regarding pardon and reduction of prison sentences on several people.

Nov 14: His Highness the Amir accepted the government's resignation and instructed the Cabinet to act as care-taker.

Nov 15: Minister of Amiri Diwan Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah announced that His Highness the Amir delegated some of his constitutional rights to His Highness the Crown Prince temporarily
