Minister urges students to serve Kuwait with dedication

KUWAIT: Under patronage and with attendance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait University (KU) held its annual graduation ceremony for graduate and postgraduate students for the academic year 2016-2017 yesterday. The ceremony was held at Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Theater at the KU campus in Shuwaikh district.

His Highness the Amir was welcomed upon arrival at the ceremony venue by Minister of Education, Higher Education and Kuwait University Supreme President Dr Hamed Al-Azmi, KU Director Dr Hussein Al-Ansari and university's senior officials. The ceremony was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, senior state officials and gathering of graduates and citizens.

Minister Azmi addressed a speech, greeting Their Highnesses the Amir, the Crown Prince, Speaker Ghanem and His Highness the Premier, saying the university is "offering the new batch of excellent (graduates) and holders of Master's and Doctorate degrees to serve the homeland and the nation."

He lauded His Highness the Amir's graceful sponsorship of the graduation ceremony, affirming that his care would motivate the students to serve the homeland devoutly. The minister expressed deep appreciation for His Highness' care for the university; "this aloft scientific landmark that crowns education in our country, safeguards its development and protects it against backwardness." He congratulated the graduates, urging them to serve Kuwait with dedication for its promotion and unity; "for Kuwait is an eternal entity and we are just passersby and its service is the most honorable and ideal act."

KU President Dr Hussein Al-Ansari told the packed audience that His Highness the Amir has always been a proponent of a sound education, as evident by his annual sponsorship of the graduation ceremony. He spoke of a number of endeavors the university has undertaken to buoy the country's national development plan, citing a revamped KU curriculum that offers a wide array of subjects, including an all-new master's program.

The KU President went on to say that the university has partnered with a number of venerable schools all over the world in a bid to offer its students top-notch education, which ultimately contributed to notable achievements KU has made over the years. Ansari added he was confident that the acumen the students had honed during their academic odysseys would serve them well as they embark on their professional careers.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, KU alumna Muneera Al-Khaled said the students owe His Highness the Amir a debt of gratitude for his unbridled support, as she dedicated her academic excellence to His Highness the Amir. She also thanked all of KU's professors for imparting their knowledge to her and fellow pupils, wishing Kuwait continued development, peace and prosperity. - KUNA
