KUWAIT: Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) announced Saturday that a blaze that erupted at the used tyre dump site in Salmi on Friday was "deliberate". Investigation teams completed technical examination and interrogated eyewitnesses about the fire that erupted at the dumping site spread over an area of 4,000 sq m, the KFF said in a statement issued by its media and public relations department.

Wind speed contributed to fueling the fire in the area, which was extinguished by KFF firefighters, it added. After checking the site of the fire, neither electrical nor thermal sources have been found, it said, indicating the results of the probe said that the fire was caused by a "deliberate" act. Coordination is ongoing with concerned bodies to identify who was behind this "criminal act", which affected public security and led to environment pollution, it stated.

Separately, a huge fire broke out at a house in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on Thursday, killing three people. A statement from KFF blamed the disaster on poor safety precautions at the site, including inaccessibility to the bedrooms of the home and lots of scrap such as doors and iron bars that blocked the way of firefighters. The statement urged landlords to make sure of the safety of their buildings and prevent tenants from storing scrap that could hinder firefighters and cause high numbers of victims. – KUNA
