KUWAIT: At least four workers were killed and three others were injured in an earth collapse at the Mutlaa City project yesterday. Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call reporting that 10 workers were trapped in a deep sinkhole that opened up due to the sand collapse. Firemen managed to rescue six people from the hole, but three of them were pronounced dead at the scene. Another worker was later pulled out dead.

Rescue operations were still ongoing at press time to rescue the three remaining workers. Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Rana Al-Fares visited the site to oversee rescue operations. She gave instructions to form an investigation committee to probe the circumstances behind the incident, and hold accountable those found responsible for any neglect.
