Emperor Augustus built the Mausoleum in 28 BC, following his victory over Queen Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium, to be the largest round-shape tomb in the world. The 12-meter-high Mausoleum, with a base diameter of 90 meters, is constructed of white stone.
