KUWAIT: Police managed to foil an attempt to smuggle around 150 kilograms of cannabis into the country, the Interior Ministry said yesterday. Police also arrested a bedoon man who tried to smuggle the cannabis, worth KD 300,000, through a sea shipment, the ministry's Public Relations department said in a statement. The suspect, who has connections to networks in nearby countries, confessed to the crime, said the department, adding investigations will continue on the matter in an effort to block narcotics from entering the country.

Crackdowns

Several surprise security campaigns were carried out under the supervision of acting interior ministry undersecretary for general security affairs Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah, resulting in the arrest of 20 wanted persons for various offenses and three residency law violators. Seven were arrested over drugs and a liquor brewery was busted.

 

Domestic dispute

A citizen fired shots at his family's house in Farwaniya after a domestic dispute. A citizen called police and told them his brother fired shots at the house due to family differences and gave them the address. Detectives are looking for the suspect.

Absconding

Ahmadi police arrested a woman who had been absconding for 10 years and wanted on a KD 34,000 debt. She was sent to Sabahiya police station. The woman was arrested during a routine patrol.

Liquor brewery busted

Salwa police closed down a liquor brewery run by two Indians and two Nepalese. A police patrol noticed a man with a large bag, who when approached, ran into a house. Police followed him, and were surprised the place was a liquor factory. They found six bottles in the bag and 725 bottles ready for sale, in addition to 166 gallons of liquor and four machines. Three other men were arrested and sent to concerned authorities.
