KUWAIT: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sane said Sunday the ministry has started tackling unlicensed mosques that were built on stateowned lands, thus violating “sanctity of public funds.” The ministry has formed a special committee to solve ‘the dilemma’ of the unlicensed mosques, usually built from tin, Sane, also Minister of Justice, told reporters on sidelines of a reception held by the Algerian Embassy on occasion of the country’s independence day.

Sane said the ministry would follow the necessary procedures to deal with any Imam of any mosque who “use the religious address for extremist purposes.” He said the Ministry of Awqaf has special mechanism to maintain the “moderate religious address.” On the relations with Algeria, Sane cited a recent visit by his Algerian counterpart that resulted in an agreement on the exchange of legal and judicial expertise. — KUNA
