KUWAIT: The criminal court yesterday sentenced blogger Dr Abdullah Al-Saleh to five years in prison with labor over charges of slandering the UAE. Notably, the defendant is at large and has filed an asylum request in Britain, declaring his wish to not return to Kuwait. He is also sentenced in other cases to a total of 31 years in prison.

Also yesterday, the court of misdemeanor sentenced the chairman of a co-operative society to three months in prison and ordered suspending the verdict on paying KD 1,000 in bail. Notably, the suspect is facing charges of forgery and embezzling the co-op’s funds during his tenure. Commenting on the case, the co-op’s lawyer Mohammed Jameel said he filed all pieces of evidence against the suspect.
