KUWAIT: The cabinet yesterday sharply condemned recent attacks in Paris, which left 129 people killed and 352 others wounded. At its weekly meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet offered sincere condolences to French President Francois Hollande and the people of France over the victims of the attacks that targeted several sites in Paris, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said in a press statement following the meeting.

The cabinet denounced such criminal acts that run counter with all heavenly religions and human values, while reiterating Kuwait's support to France's measures to maintain its security and stability. It also condemned recent attacks in Beirut, and supported all measures taken by the Lebanese government to ensure the country's security and stability. It reaffirmed Kuwait's condemnation of all forms and manifestations of terrorism, wishing those injured in the attacks swift recovery.

Amir's visit

At the onset of the meeting, the ministers welcomed His Highness the Amir's return following his recent official visit to Russia where he had held official talks with President Vladimir Putin. In this context, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the ministers on the outcomes of talks which focused on existing economic, investment, oil and military cooperation, the Middle East and anti-terrorism efforts.

The cabinet lauded mutual understanding, friendship and existing good relations between Kuwait and Russia, voicing willingness to raise them up to the level that could fulfill the ambitions of both countries' people.

His Highness the Prime Minister then apprised the cabinet of the outcomes of the fourth Arab-South America summit recently held in Riyadh, noting that bilateral relations have been largely developed over the last 10 years in all realms. He said bilateral economic, cultural, educational and technological cooperation had been discussed during the Riyadh summit. His Highness the Premier thanked Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz for hospitality and the proper and successful organizing of the summit.

Jaber Stadium

Afterwards, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the cabinet on a recent inspection tour made by a ministerial committee he leads, to the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in order to check on preparations for the opening of the stadium officially. He hailed the stadium as a sports edifice that fulfills world development specifications and standards, and appreciated the efforts of the Amiri Diwan, Public Authority for Sports and other concerned state bodies in this regard. The cabinet congratulated Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the occasion of his country's National Day, hailing the distinguished achievements accomplished under his leadership in all fields. - KUNA
