KUWAIT: The cabinet plans to cut down the expenses of the treatment overseas program through reducing the funds allocated to dispatch patients for treatment in other countries, Health Minister Dr Ali Al-Obaidi said. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held recently at the Avenues Mall to launch a campaign for training on life-saving measures, Obaidi stressed that the state’s general austerity measures must be met in various fields, including the overseas treatment program. He explained that allowances paid to the first and second companions of each patient sent for treatment abroad were reduced from KD 100 a day to only KD 75 and KD 50.

Meanwhile, Obaidi hailed the role played by the ministry’s medical emergency department in training 1,700 people during a two-day course, which was organized in collaboration with the American Cardiology Society.
