KUWAIT: A security source said based on instructions from Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah to cooperate and exchange information between security departments with regards to forgeries in nationalities, the first case was discovered and sent to public prosecution of a citizen accused of adding one of his cousin's children (a bedoon) to his file and got him Kuwaiti nationality from which he benefited in his studies, worked in the defense ministry and received a marriage loan besides other financial and social advantages.

The security source said under the instructions and supervision of Interior Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Passports Affairs Maj Gen Mazen Al-Jarrah, and exchange of information between nationality detectives and defense ministry intelligence, it was learnt that the accused citizen, (A.R.A.) born in 1961, added the son of the second suspect (A.H.A.) who is his bedoon brother-in-law, to his nationality file and got him official documents as a Kuwait citizen in the name of (A.A.R.). The source added that after making sure about the information, the first suspect's home in Ahmadi was raided and he was arrested. He told authorities that during the Iraqi invasion, he left for Syria where the second suspect asked him to add his newborn child in his name to get him to Kuwait following liberation and add him to his Kuwaiti nationality file, and he obliged and submitted inaccurate information to the Kuwait embassy in Syria. He brought him to Kuwait with a travel document then got him a birth certificate from the health ministry, then added him to his file in 1993. The second and third suspects were referred to the defense ministry as they are military men.

Drunk driver arrested

"I am a drunk, not a thief," is how an Iraqi man explained his condition when he was arrested with a liquor bottle. He was taken to the police station and charged with public drunkenness and possession of alcohol. Patrol officers spotted a car being driven erratically that almost hit other cars and ran over pedestrians. When stopped, he was found heavily drunk.

Khaitan fire

Firemen put out a fire in a Khaitan flat which started due to faulty wiring. The speedy response of firemen prevented the spread of the fire, and only material losses were reported.

KD 23,000 debt

Capital patrols arrested a 28-year-old citizen wanted for a KD 23,000 debt, and he was sent to the civil implementation department. The arrest was made in Sharq when a patrol officer suspected the man who seemed nervous when police approached him. When they checked his information, he was found wanted.

Kidnappers caught

Jahra police arrested three persons who kidnapped a bedoon (stateless) man, took him to the Jahra stables area and beat him up because of previous disputes. They were charged accordingly. A security source said a call was received about a kidnapping, so Waha policemen went to the area and found the victim, who told them about the three who beat him and fled. Policemen combed the area and found the three in a car and were arrested.

Drug trafficker arrested

A drug trafficker resisted arrest in Sharq but was controlled and sent to the sentences implementation department to serve a five-year jail sentence for a drugs conviction. A police patrol noticed a man at dawn in Sharq, and when asked about his ID, he said he left it in his car, so they took his fingerprints and discovered he is wanted to serve a jail sentence. - Al-Rai
