KUWAIT: His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah announced constitutional dissolution of parliament in a speech he delivered on behalf of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Wednesday. The dissolution decree and call for snap polls will be made in the coming months, he added.

In the speech, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah confirmed commitment to the constitution and preserving national unity, stressing that the constitution won't be suspended in light of the political crisis gripping Kuwait. His Highness the Crown Prince reiterates the importance of staying vigilant in the face of challenges brought by global developments, which he said Kuwait is "regrettably being distracted from" due to the political deadlock. His Highness the Crown Prince expressed regret at the failure of the parliament and government to assume their role and provide a clear vision for development that meets people's ambitions, which resulted in growing public frustration.

His Highness the Crown Prince noted that according to article 107 of the Kuwaiti constitution, "it is in national interest I seek dissolution of the National Assembly and I urge the Kuwaiti people to elect a new house that can bear great responsibility of maintaining the state's stability." An Amiri decree of the National Assembly dissolution is to be issued in the upcoming few months, His Highness the Crown Prince added. His Highness the Crown Prince stressed that the political leadership will not interfere in the Kuwaiti people's choices during the parliament elections.
