KUWAIT: Kuwait Red Crescent Society's (KRCS) 'Cry of Aleppo' fundraising campaign depicts the State of Kuwait's major role at the international humanitarian relief levels, a number of officials said yesterday. The campaign, launched yesterday in Farwaniya, Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Ahmadi governorates in support of displaced Syrians from Aleppo, came as a reaction from the Kuwaiti people, renowned for good deeds, the officials said in separate interviews.  They also underlined the key role played by the KRCS for those who need support worldwide.

This charitable-humanitarian campaign has been launched in line with religious and humanitarian duties, toward the "brothers in Aleppo, which aims to support them following the annihilation of their homeland," said Sheikh Faisal Al-Malek Al-Sabah, Al-Farwaniya Governor. He also noted the keenness in this respect to bolster the State of Kuwait's status as a global humanitarian center.

Kuwait has always been in the front ranks for "aiding every-one and erecting bridges of relief and offering aid and tackling the hardships of the stricken and needy nations; in line with guidelines of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah," the governor said.

Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud lauded the substantial response from the citizens and residents to the campaign, "reflecting genuine traits of the Kuwaiti people and their devotion for giving and hurriedly aiding those in need at times of hardships."

K-Net only

Ibrahim Al-Fodari, the director of the technical bureau in Al-Farwaniya, said the donations were solely given via the K-Net. He also expressed gratitude to the KRCS, the generous citizens, the Ministry of Information, the media and other contributors.

Yousef Al-Me'raj, in charge of the emergency and catastrophes' affairs at KRCS, confirmed that the nationwide effort aims at dispatching humanitarian and relief supplies to the Syrians. The KRSC is conducting the campaign at malls, State departments and Kuwait University. A delegation from the society will travel to Syria to prepare the supplies that would be handed to Syrians in need and the displaced. Two days ago, he added, a batch of supplies including winter clothes and other necessities reached some of the Syrians in the north of the country.

Abdullah Al-Mesbah, a donor, said that he had chosen the KRCS because it is a veteran and reliable association. Another donor, Mansour Al-Otaibi, said, "We are following the footsteps of His Highness the Amir to scramble for relieving the afflicted anywhere, particularly in Arab and Islamic States." Other donors also expressed strong confidence that the KRCS, as always, would secure delivery of the necessities to the needy in war-torn Syria.

Worst conditions

Earlier, KRCS' Vice chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi said that the campaign will cover the country's five governorates. He affirmed that it has been organized in solidarity with the people of Aleppo who have been afflicted with the worst conditions, adding that the KRCS has mustered all potential and voluntary cadres to secure its success.

The campaign will proceed for two days in each governorate, Hasawi added. He expressed gratitude to the governors who hurriedly responded to the philanthropic call and opened the doors of the governorates to receive donors, both Kuwaitis and residents.

Meanwhile, Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Fawaz Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah stressed in a press statement the need to join the regional and international efforts to stop the Aleppo tragedy, adding that KRCS is ever ready to enhance its leading role, fulfilling its human responsibility toward the displaced Syrians. Also, Secretary of the Board of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Nabil Al-Hafith said that opening the doors of the governorate to receive donations came upon directions of the Governor Ahmad Al-Rujaib. - KUNA
