KUWAIT: Kuwait Customs seized large quantities of subsidized (tamween) foodstuff being smuggled abroad. "A large amount of tamween products have been confiscated in Sulaibiya. They amounted to around 1,000 cans of milk and 400 bottles of oil among others," the customs announced. Legal measures are underway at the ministry of finance.

100 kg of hashish worth KD 250,000 seized

The interior ministry announced the seizure of 100 kg of hashish that was brought from a nearby country by an expatriate. "The street value of the illegal products amounts to around KD 250,000. The contraband and the smuggler have been transferred to the drug enforcement department, where legal procedures will be taken," the public relations department of the ministry of interior announced.

Municipality shuts 18 violating basements

A total of 91 citations have been issues to violating basements, with 18 shut down, 12 vacated and 42 blocked in the third week of a campaign by the Municipality and Kuwait Fire Force. "The campaign includes all areas of Kuwait in its third week against violating commercial buildings, from the rooftops to basements and stores that do not follow municipal regulations," the Municipality announced during a press conference. It added intensive campaigns will continue to inspect all governorates in order to ensure that regulations are being followed, and legal procedures will be taken if any violations or unlicensed activities are discovered.

Safat building fire controlled

Three clothing material stores caught fire on Monday in Safat, the public relations department of Kuwait Fire Force said. "Squads from Hilali, Kuwait City and Hawally stations were dispatched. Upon arrival, they found the fire was on the second floor. It was controlled and total losses were only restricted to material goods," the department said. Investigations are underway on the cause of the fire.
