KUWAIT: On 17 September 2019, Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI), which was founded by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), joined the world on the International Patient Safety Day (IPSD) as the World Health Organization (WHO) launches a global campaign to create awareness of patient safety and urge people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer. This year, Dasman Diabetes Institute held an event that aimed to raise awareness and hosted activities to drive improvement and stimulate innovative solutions by emphasizing the importance of establishing a safety culture at all levels of an organization.

The event included an open day that engaged visitors and service providers in patient safety practices around the Institute, and was also highlighted by an interactive session organized by the Patient Safety Club, a Kuwait Public Health Society's initiative, to raise awareness for DDI staff on the Patient Safety Solutions that were endorsed and disseminated by the WHO. Participating in the International Patient Safety Day offered an opportunity for DDI to showcase efforts and achievements towards promoting and sustaining patient safety that represented DDI’s patient safety role as a healthcare service provider, a research center, and a member of the community.
