KUWAIT: An informed source said authorities deported nearly 17,000 expats in 2018 compared to 29,000 in 2017, a drop of 45 percent. The source said the drop in the number of residency violators is the main reason behind the drop in the number of deportees, in addition to instructions by the government to not deport any expat on malicious or illegal grounds. The source said 31,000 expats were deported in 2016 following several security campaigns in that period. He added that deportation is now quicker, as any person who is detained at the deportation prison does not remain there more than a week. He said the main reasons behind deportations are residency violations and felonies, especially those related to traffic. - Al-Qabas
