KUWAIT: This year, the world celebrates the annual anniversary of Human Rights Day, which falls on Saturday, Dec 10, to honor the day on which the United Nations General Assembly announced the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Human Rights Day is celebrated this year under the slogan "Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All", Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasizes on "Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world."

On this occasion, the Chairman of the National Diwan for Human Rights Jassem Al-Mubaraki stated that Kuwait's keenness to protect human rights and freedoms derives from the provisions of the Kuwaiti constitution, which is consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international treaties, and our tolerant Islamic sharia.

Mubaraki stressed the interest of Kuwait in including human rights issues and amending laws related to rights and freedoms in the government plan of action 2022/2026, as it was given priority to activate the role of the National Diwan for Human Rights in defending human rights and freedoms within a reference to the Constitution and international initiatives.

Mubaraki assured the importance of cooperation and coordination with government sectors, civil society and international organizations to meet with the challenges and obstacles facing the protection of human rights, protection of freedoms and achieving justice values. Mubaraki concluded that the celebration of this occasion is an opportunity to disseminate the human rights culture and concepts that aim on respecting human dignity, guaranteeing his rights and believing in his ability.
