KUWAIT: Planet
Earth cannot tolerate more destruction in the Amazon, a Kuwaiti meteorologist
said yesterday, warning that "the globe's lungs are being burned."
The Amazon forests are where 33 million people live along with 240 local
indigenous Amazon communities, as well as 400,000 plant species, 370 reptiles
and 300 types of marine life, Meteorologist Essa Ramadan said in a statement
yesterday, adding that the Amazon rainforests are able to reduce global warming
and adapt to it.

On Kuwait's
weather, Ramadan said humidity is expected to continue until the weekend,
adding that it may return at the start of September, which indicates a change
in the weather. Yesterday marked the first day of the 'Suhail season', he said,
adding the Suhail star (Canopus) is in the south of the Arabian Peninsula and
will be visible in Kuwait after September 5.
