Brussels: The European Union Monday criticized the burning of the Holy Quran by a Danish far-right party leader in Stockholm last Saturday.

"Yes, we are aware of the incident. We are also aware of the reaction by the Swedish authorities," European Commission spokesperson for human rights, Johannes Bahrke, replied to a KUNA question during a press conference in Brussels.

"Such actions are not compatible by the values on which the EU is founded," he said, noting "we have said previously already that racism, xenophobia, hatred on the base of race, religion, color has no place in the European Union".
