KUWAIT: Two people sustained burns and bruises after an explosion shattered their apartment in Salmiya. Their conditions were later described as stable. A preliminary investigation indicated that a gas leak caused the explosion. The tenants had reportedly switched the lights on, which provided the spark that set apartment on fire, according to investigations.

The building was evacuated before firefighters managed to extinguish the flames. A team of specialists later arrived to the scene and determined that the building needs to remain evacuated for at least a month for safety reasons, saying that the explosion may have damaged its foundations. Based on that, all tenants were told to stay away from the building until further notice. In a separate incident, Hawally and Salmiya fire centers responded to a call about a fire in a Jabriya apartment. The fire was put out quickly and no injuries were reported.
