KUWAIT: The Riyadh Forum to Counter Extremism and Fight Terrorism to be held on May 21st at the Intercontinental Hotel under the sponsorship of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, Dr Saud Al-Sarhan, Secretary General of The King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, announced today. This year's event 'The Nature of Extremism and the Future of Terrorism' will be part of a high-level set of visits and activities during the month of May.

"This forum will bring together word-class experts to discuss the future of terrorism, as well as social media and its effects on radicalization, and how we will confront terrorism and extremism on a regional level," Dr Sarhan said. "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has brought together all elements of its national power -Political, Military, Economic, Civil Society and Ideology - to take the lead in the fight against terrorism and this forum will serve to enhance and expand upon that leadership," he said.

Over the last decade terrorism and extremism have devastated Muslim nations with Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Syria and Yemen leading the 2016 Global Terrorism Index. To date many Muslim nations have been fighting this epidemic of hate alone but this forum aims to bridge that divide and begin an open and honest dialogue about how we got where we are today, what are its root causes and how will we address these issues with one voice as we move forward.

The Riyadh Forum to Counter Extremism and Fight Terrorism will have four moderated panels focusing on key terrorism issues facing us today, and will explore how nations can work together to find solutions to one of the most pressing challenges facing not just the Muslim world but all nations world-wide. The panels - the future of terrorism; extremism online and in social media; its relationship to crime and corruption; and how terror and extremism can be confronted in the Middle East - will be discussed in depth by expert panelists from around the globe.
