KUWAIT: Firefighters yesterday managed to rescue a child and a baby who had been locked off and left alone at their family residence in Salwa, said security sources. They noted that neighbors had heard the kids' cries and screams, but received no response when they knocked the door. Accordingly, firemen were called and they got a public prosecutor's warrant to break the door open. They entered the house and found the two kids locked alone.

Schools jam-packed

Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa said that public schools' capacity does not currently allow accepting any additional students, especially after accepting the sons of bedoon military personnel. Essa also explained that, even if the government paid all the cost, afternoon schools needed special human resources and members of teaching and administrative staffs.

Hospitals expansion

The Farwaniya committee at the Municipal Council recently approved a request made by Health Minister Dr Ali Al-Obaidi to increase Farwaniya hospital's floors to eight, and the infectious diseases hospital's to six. Moreover, committee chairman Nayef Al-Sour said that the committee also approved a request made by the communications ministry to build a mobile signal boosting station.

Committees meet

Rapporteur of the parliamentary educational affairs committee MP Humoud Al-Hamdan said that on its first meeting, the committee had set its priorities for the next three months including discussing the e-media, the authors and patent right bills that had been referred by the government for discussion. Meanwhile, MP Khalil Abdullah revealed that the parliamentary human resources committee agreed to review a proposed bill on the appointment of senior officials including the selection conditions, privileges, assessment, selecting their advisors and selecting boards of directors. Speaking to his constituents on resuming his weekly Diwaniya meetings, Abdullah said that the committee also agreed on the wages strategic alternative. And with the attendance of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Development and Planning Affairs Hind Al-Subaih, the parliamentary priorities committee yesterday discussed the topics to be discussed on the coming parliamentary session, said the committee Rapporteur MP Ahmad Lari. He pointed out that the topic would also include amending the laws of the public authority for the disabled and juveniles. He added that the government filed 43 priorities, of which 13 were already on the agenda. Separately, chairman of the parliamentary sports affairs committee MP Abdullah Al-Maayouf said that the committee yesterday discussed its working mechanism and its agenda in addition to the measures to be followed in view of the current sports activities' suspension.
