KUWIAT: The fishermen union yesterday called all fishermen for a press conference today at the union's headquarters in Sharq to discuss the challenges they face after a decision to evict fishermen from their accommodation. A number of fishermen were handed over notices earlier this week to evacuate their apartments at the fishermen's temporary residence near the Amiri Hospital. The fishermen were not given an alternative residence they could relocate to.

The union explained that the decision to evict the building was made months ago, urging state officials to solve the problem. "The owner did not give a reasonable period before the eviction despite het fact that April's rent was already paid," the union stressed in a statement, urging all fishermen to be present at the union headquarters at 6:30 pm this evening. The union also urged the government to build a village for fishermen in order to avoid a situation that would severely affect Kuwait's daily production of fish. In addition, the union invited lawmakers and relevant government bodies to attend the press conference.
