KUWAIT: An Asian woman was killed while two others sustained burns of various degree when a fire caused by a gas leak broke out in a three-storey building in Salmiya yesterday, said security sources. The fire started when three cooking gas cylinders exploded in a ground-floor apartment, blowing off part of the ceiling, wall and spreading to a vehicle that was parked outside the building.

Security sources added that firemen from Salmiya rushed to the scene, where they found a dead woman inside the flat on fire and managed to rescue another pregnant woman trapped under the debris. Firemen also managed to control the fire that extended to parts of the adjacent building.

Separately, an Asian was seriously injured when a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a three-storey Hawally building, said security sources, noting that firemen rushed to the scene and found that the explosion happened in a ground floor annex. The sources added that a gas leak and explosion caused a fire in a room adjacent to the annex.
