KUWAIT: Kuwait offers education and healthcare freely to illegal residents according to its humanitarian policies, an official in a state body tasked with that community's affairs said yesterday.

Executive Director of the Illegal Residents Affairs' Apparatus, Saleh Al-Fadalah, made the comment as he briefed the Dutch Ambassador to Kuwait Frans Potuyt at the body's headquarters in Nayef Palace. A Cabinet decision, adopted in 2011, granted these incentives along with others to illegal residents, he said.

Fadalah explained that these initiatives stem from the Kuwaiti society's hospitable nature, and the country's leading position in the field of global humanitarian work.  These efforts saw His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah honored by the UN, as humanitarian leader. However, he stated that granting citizenship is a sovereign right of nations. - KUNA
