KUWAIT: Indian Ambassador to Kuwait K Jeeva Sagar delivers a speech during the embassy's celebration of India's 70th Republic Day yesterday.

KUWAIT: Indian
Embassy in Kuwait yesterday celebrated India's 70th Republic Day at the embassy
premises. At a colorful open-air ceremony, Indian Ambassador K Jeeva Sagar
hoisted the national flag in the presence of embassy officials and a large
crowd of Indian nationals who gathered at the embassy to celebrate the
remarkable day in India's history.

A cross section
of the Indian expat community representing various associations, business
community, doctors, engineers and labor class 
attended the flag-hoisting ceremony that was held in an atmosphere of
joy and patriotic zest. The ambassador also garlanded the stature of Mahatma
Gandhi, the father of the nation on the occasion. Jeeva Sagar read out India's
President Ram Nath Kovind's address to the nation. Students from different
Indian schools performed patriotic songs on the occasion. 

While extending
greetings to the members of the community in Kuwait, he praised the gathering
for joining the embassy in celebrating the spirit of Republic Day. Sharing his
happiness with the community members, the ambassador informed that Indian expat
from Kuwait Rajpal Thaygi received the prestigious Pravasi Bharathiya Award
last week from Indian president.

He expressed his
gratitude to the Indian community members in Kuwait for extending a helping
hand to the victims of the devastating flood that struck Kerala last year.
Republic Day is an important day in India's national calendar as India's
constitution came into force on January 26, 1950, completing the country's
transition toward becoming an independent republic.
