KUWAIT: Embassy of India, Kuwait, celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the constitution of India on Wednesday. In his inaugural remarks, Indian Ambassador Sibi George spoke about the pivotal role played by Dr Ambedkar as the chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian constitution in enactment of a unique constitution which laid the framework for peaceful governance, development and progress of India, which is the largest democracy in the world.

"The role he played in giving us our constitution makes him an eternal hero in the history of India and in its emergence as the most vibrant democracy in the world," the ambassador said in his remarks. "Today, we celebrate the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar, who is remembered as the architect of the Constitution of India. Today is also Mahavir Jayanti. Today is also Maundy Thursday. In fact, this week is a special period of celebrations with various festivals of Vishu, Baisakhi, Vaisakhadi, Poila Boishakh, Maha Bisubha Sankranti, Puthandu. Greetings of each of these festivals to all," the ambassador said.

Pledging to rededicate to the cause of the nation, the ambassador read out the preamble of Indian constitution. On the occasion, the ambassador, officers and family members of the embassy and members of the Indian community in Kuwait paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of Nation and Dr Ambedkar.

The ambassador also inaugurated an exhibition displaying the journey of Babasaheb Ambedkar in the making of the constitution. A reading session by the readers of the embassy's Indian Readers Network (IRN) was also held where the members of the network read some of the excerpts from the prominent books authored by Dr Ambedkar. The event witnessed enthusiastic response with people from different walks life in Kuwait participating virtually as well as physically.
