KUWAIT: Information Ministry Undersecretary Mohammed Bin Naji stressed the importance of combating corruption, so a strategy to upgrade private media was formulated after intense meetings with experts. “Development of human resources, development of purposeful content, and the creation of appropriate infrastructure is the aim of this important workshop by Nazaha in order to develop and educate media professionals,” Bin Naji said during the opening of the workshop.

Acting Secretary-General of the Public Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) Salem Al-Ali said: “The transparency and professional journalism workshop is held in cooperation with the information ministry in order to activate strategic initiatives to combat corruption by allowing a transparent culture to thrive. Media outlets are considered one of the most important components of society in their responsibility in combating corruption and increasing awareness by directing public opinion.”

He added: “It is important to combat corruption, mainly by the laws regulating the efforts of the state, which are based on several principles, perhaps the most important of which are ensuring human rights, the rule of law, protecting individual rights, respecting media freedom and encouraging the role of civil society organizations.” The workshop had five sessions by important figures from international and local institutes.
