KUWAIT: The interior ministry has rescinded a decision to impound vehicles found in violation of traffic regulations, pending amendments to traffic laws soon. The decision has been made to ensure stringent road safety standards through a comprehensive traffic law, read a statement issued by the ministry yesterday. The ministry had previously drafted a law where motorists had their vehicles impounded for not wearing a helmet, a seatbelt or using their mobile phones while driving. As per the new decision, these measures have now been rendered null and void.

Deputy speaker Essa Al-Kandari confirmed that the interior minister ordered the suspension of the seizure of vehicles for traffic offenses, and asked the government's legal department to study if the measure is in line with the constitution.
