KUWAIT: On the occasion of the 77th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuwait in cooperation with the International Women's Group held Indonesian Cultural Day on Tuesday, November 8th 2022, with the theme "The Beauty of Minangkabau". A total of approximately 60 invited guests including Lady ambassadors accredited to Kuwait, Head of Missions' Spouses, the members of International Women's Group (IWG), and the Unity of Indonesian Embassy Staff's Spouses attended the event.

Also attending the event were Indonesian women with prestigious positions. Among them were Madam Emma Yohana, the Indonesian Senator from West Sumatera Province, Dr Netty Prasetiyani from the Indonesian Parliament, and Madam Sukma Violetta from Indonesian Judicial Commission. Ghada Shawky, President of the International Women's Group and wife of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, gave a speech, where she thanked Lena Maryana, Ambassador of Indonesia for the special invitation and referred to the beauty of Indonesia, its diverse culture, hospitable and kind people, and its delicious cuisine.

The theme of the event refers to the Minangkabau tribe, the indigenous people of the highlands of West Sumatra in Indonesia. This event is in collaboration with one of the provinces in Indonesia namely the provincial government of West Sumatra to bring dancers who performed traditional minangkabau dances.

The dances exhibited are Indang dance and Pasambahan (offering) dance. Beside the dances, traditional and popular Indonesian songs had light up the mood of the guests attending. A traditional fashion show also featured, that were followed with all the guests invited to dance together to a traditional song called "Maumere gemu famire" and "Poco-poco". On this occasion, a whole range of Indonesian cuisines were present.

There were chicken satay with peanut sauce, gado-gado (steam vegetables mixed with peanut sauce), martabak (Indonesian pancake), and many others. This event was particularly aimed to embrace women's contribution in society, especially when it comes to promoting culture and tourism through arts and culinary. At the end, Ghada Shawky presented an honorary shield to Lena Maryana on behalf of the IWG appreciating the organization of this special event.
