Tehran: Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei held talks on Monday with the visiting Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al-Said, as the latter embarks on his first visit to the Islamic Republic since taking the throne.

Looking forward to more progress in relations within the Islamic world, Iran's supreme leader told the Omani ruler that bilateral relations are "deep-rooted and exemplary," while closer ties would bode well for both nations, state television reported.

Underlining Muscat's desire to reach out to regional neighbors, Oman's Sultan agreed that ties with Tehran are on an upward trajectory, pointing out that the talks covered varied topics.

The Omani Sultan arrived in Tehran a day earlier for a two-day visit.
