KUWAIT: The International Women's Group (IWG) marked the Kuwait National and Liberation Days on Monday, Feb 13, 2023, with a celebration at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Farwaniya. The event was held in the presence of the guest of honor Sheikha Intisar Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah. Indonesian Ambassador Lena Maryana and the Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Neera Dukhi and other distinguished guests were also present.

The celebration began with the national anthem of Kuwait and other Kuwaiti national songs played by the Kuwait Army music band. The celebration included a special welcome with the scent of bukhoor and a spray of rose water as a gesture of Kuwaiti hospitality. Attendees came dressed in traditional Kuwaiti clothes or the colors of the Kuwaiti flag.

In her opening speech, IWG President Ghada Shawky congratulated the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the people of Kuwait on the occasion.

She highlighted the vision and wisdom of the Kuwaiti leadership that led Kuwait to great progress since its independence and stressed the great achievements of the country on the regional and international levels. Shawky, who is also the wife of the Egyptian ambassador, took a minute of silence for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Sheikha Intisar praised the efforts of the IWG in spreading cultural awareness. She spoke with pride about Kuwait's good relations with the rest of the world and the great confidence the world has placed in Kuwaiti merchants. Sheikha Intisar urged the attendees to enjoy the seasonal beauty of the delicate Nuwair wildflowers, after which she named her non-profit initiative that's dedicated to promoting a positive attitude among citizens and residents. The flowers, she said, grow against all odds in the most unexpected places - a symbol of resilience, beauty and positivity.

After cutting the cake depicting the National flag of Kuwait, the group watched a video about Kuwait and enjoyed a traditional performance, Kuwaiti food and a display of handmade crafts. The celebration also featured a showcase of Kuwaiti marriage customs with its joyful and distinctive rituals.
