KUWAIT: A memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday by Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to provide $1 million relief aid to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

The MoU was signed by KRCS Board Chairman Hilal Al- Sayer and KFAED Director-General Abdulwahab Ahmed Al-Bader. Speaking after the signing, Bader reiterated Kuwait’s $15 million pledge to provide relief aid to Rohingya refugees.

Out of this figure, $1 million was offered by the KFAED to fulfill the urgent needs of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, he added.

KRCS Board Chairman Hilal Al-Sayer said the allocated sum includes $600,000 for food aid and $400,000 for medical supplies. He estimated the number of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh at around 600,000, appreciating this first-of-its-kind cooperative MoU with the KFAED. —KUNA
