KUWAIT: Kuwait Finance House "KFH" participated in an awareness initiative to encourage the culture of recycling and preservation of environment as part of its social responsibility, sustainability strategy and "Keep It Green" campaign. The campaign acts as an umbrella covering several environmental projects and initiatives. The initiative, held at Assima Mall in collaboration with PUFF, witnessed unprecedented attendance by society members from different ages including children. Environment friendly PUFF bottle was distributed for every 5 plastic bottles.

Group DGM, Public Relations and Media, Yousef Al-Ruwaieh, said that the initiative has participated in the collection of more than 25,000 plastic bottles within five hours for recycling, thus depicting the significant social awareness on the need to maintain environment and enhance the recycling culture. Also, it reflects society's interest in taking part in environmental and sustainability initiatives.

He noted that the initiative has witnessed tremendous praise and admiration by Assima mall visitors who participated in exchanging plastic bottles for environment friendly PUFF bottles. They expressed the need to execute such initiatives to enhance the spread of the environment sustainability development culture as part of the world's tendency in this respect.

"Keep it green"

Ruwaieh said that KFH has launched several environmental initiatives under the umbrella of "Keep it green" campaign including signing a strategic partnership with the Public Authority for Agricultural and Fishery. KFH has signed a strategic partnership with the Sedra initiative and the voluntary green dream team which includes various environmental projects and activities in the field of plantation and mitigation of carbon emissions.

He emphasized that the "Carbon Offset" platform, designed by "Sedra", is the first platform in Kuwait through which carbon emission may be mitigated and other future environment projects may be launched. Ruwaieh added saying "To crown the strategic partnership between KFH, Sedra and the green dream team, KFH has participated in supporting the initial stage of the project which comprises the plantation of 500 trees and providing 3 years care which is the average care period required for the tree to be self-sufficient.

Cleaning Kubbar Island

KFH voluntary team has participated in cleaning Kubbar island in collaboration with the Public Environment Authority and the Coast Guard. KFH is the first bank at the private sector level to support the Agrivage initiative which was established by Kuwaiti youth to transform vegetables and fruits leftovers into manure for the soil.

Environment Friendly Banking Cards

KFH provides 5 products of KFH smart plastic bank cards which are 85.5 percent made of recycled plastic of high global quality and specifications according to the highest environment sustainability standards and certified by specialized global organizations e.g. Visa, MasterCard, IDEAMIA card industry. This industry is the first of its kind in Kuwait as environment friendly initiatives and banking cards compliant to global sustainability practices.

KFH owns an environment friendly KFH Auto showroom fully compatible with green buildings' standards and global sustainability standards. It is the largest auto showroom in the Middle East covering a total area of 38 thousand square meters.

Sustainability Report Release

KFH released the sustainability report as part of its group integrated sustainability strategy. The report covers environment, society, financial inclusiveness, employees' rights, customer protection and governance manual in KFH activities, management, and operations at the operational and business continuity levels to achieve an added value for shareholders, customers, partners and interested persons.

Ruwaieh affirmed that KFH is continuing its efforts in "Keep it green" campaign to support various environment initiatives while ensuring to go ahead in its sustainable development strategy. He highlighted that KFH group has the means to be on the right track of sustainable strategy according to the latest international standards, calibers, and frameworks.

From his side, the CEO of "PUFF" company, Abdullah Al-Habib said that the company is keen on supporting the initiatives related to environment preservation, plastic materials usage codification and benefiting from all available resources.

He added that "We at "PUFF" are proud to have organized this initiative. We have participated in the collection of more than 25 thousand plastic bottles with a wide support from the public who are the essence of this success. We shall donate these materials to specialized companies to recycle the plastic and use it in manufacturing different materials that would benefit society and the world in general."

Habib indicated that PUFF is continuing to support the initiatives that would bring benefit to environment and society. He urged all companies and individuals to participate and support such healthy events that have a positive impact on human beings and all creatures on the face of this earth at present and in the future.
