KUWAIT: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has begun experimenting with a chemical injection system for oil extraction, which represents a major step forward, the company said yesterday. Speaking to the press, KOC CEO Jamal Jafar touted the project, which he said was unprecedented in the Middle East region and is being carried out in northern Kuwait. He noted that the project aims to boost oil reserves and will prove beneficial for the oil sector in the long run.

On the process to obtain oil, the KOC’s official pointed out that the procedure involves multiple steps and oil is typically extracted through heating and gas or chemical injections. Jafar said that the company makes it a point to look into different methods to extract oil and that the chemical injection system has been heavily relied upon in the wake of dwindling oil prices. He added that collective dedication on the part of the company’s staff enabled them to translate this monumental project into a reality. —KUNA
