KUWAIT: The Kuwaiti Health Ministry's Addiction Treatment Center helps in treating those entangled with drugs and narcotics, and thankfully, efforts helped boost the recovery rate to 40 percent, said an official on Sunday. In an interview by KUNA, head of the center Dr Adel Al-Zaid revealed that addiction had a social, ethical, legal, and health affect those suffering from it; therefore, the center tried to address each problem and find a solution to the most urgent issues.

Dr Al-Zaid revealed that the center was the only one in the Gulf region that provided recuperative services to women, noting that they were now planning to address teenagers with the same services.

He went on to say that the center also offered services to help addicts during and after their predicament in coordination with several entities including the addicts anonymous. Addiction is not an easy disease to defeat, it required a continuous effort by patients, he said, affirming that the center would always provide its assistance to those eager to beat narcotics.

He revealed that international statistics showed that five percent of addicts might relapse event after 20 years of soberness, thusly; the fight against addiction is a long life struggle. Dr Al-Zaid continued that the center was dedicated to providing help to those suffering from addiction offering primarily medical assistance.

The State of Kuwait took an important step in re-establishing of the defunct 2013 national committee against drugs on December fourth, he affirmed, noting that the fight against narcotics was a responsibility of the society as a whole.  - KUNA
