KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Friday sent a cable to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, voicing heartfelt and sincere condolences over the victims of an earthquake that rocked western Turkey and left a number of people dead or injured.

In the cable, His Highness the Amir prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow mercy upon the victims and swift recovery upon those injured, and to help Turkish officials defeat the aftershocks of this disaster. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah voiced identical sentiments in two separate cables addressed to the Turkish president.

Kuwait's Consul General in Istanbul Mohammad Al-Mohammad has meanwhile affirmed that all Kuwaiti nationals in Turkey are safe following the earthquake that hit some areas southeast Turkey. The consul, in a statement to the press, urged all Kuwaitis to be cautious and abide by the competent authorities' instructions in such cases. Kuwait's Ambassador to Turkey Ghassan Al-Zawawi had appealed to Kuwaiti nationals in Turkey to be vigilant and keep way from the areas affected by the earthquake. Zawawi affirmed the safety of all Kuwaiti citizens in Izmir city hit by the earthquake. The embassy has not received any complaints about the injury of any Kuwaiti in the quake so far, he said. Zawawi offered his sincere condolences to the Turkish people over the victims of the quake, praying to Allah to help the wounded recover rapidly. Earlier in the day, Turkish emergency and disaster department reported a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in Aegean Sea off Izmir city, west of Turkey, that led to dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries. - KUNA
