KUWAIT: Kuwait Heart Society organized a workshop on "Cardiac Amyloidosis, Diagnosis and treatment" on Sunday. Head of the Cardiac Unit at Hussa Al-Abdelrazaq Heart Center at Sabah Health Zone, and member of Kuwait Heart Association Dr Mousa Akbar said "we met to do discuss a rare disease that affects the heart with Mubarak, Sabah, Amiri Hospital Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center and Adan Hospital." He said that there is a new medicine for the condition - raising hope for cure, but it is costly, especially if the patient is treated abroad. "We were able to bring the medicine to Kuwait, making the cost somewhat less," he said.

Meanwhile, Hematology consultant at Kuwait Cancer Center Dr Ahmad Al-Huraiji said they discussed the symptoms of Amyloidosis, means of diagnosis and new treatment methods. He said that the disease is rare, but it is not sufficiently diagnosed, but it is necessary to spread awareness to avoid complications. Cardiologist Fahad Al-Hajiri said the disease affects the blood and heart and its diagnosis is not easy. The workshop was organized to spread awareness among doctors and society.
