Kuwait, Indonesia to resume talks on domestic helpers

KUWAIT: Officials from Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower are expected to meet soon with Indonesian officials discuss the regulations of recruiting Indonesians as domestic helpers in Kuwait, to resume a protocol that had been suspended for 11 years, well-informed sources said.
The meeting could be held before the end of the year or by the beginning of 2020, said the sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity, noting that the Indonesian side is expected to suggest a draft of the contracts to be used in hiring domestic helpers, which mentions minimum wages, leaves and laborers’ rights.
Further, the sources said that foreign ministries of both countries are about to sign a memorandum of understanding in this regard in Kuwait, adding that the discussions were resumed upon Kuwait’s request. In addition, the sources stressed that once the agreement was approved and signed, Indonesian domestic helpers would be expected in Kuwait by the fourth quarter of 2020 and that their recruitment would be done through Al-Durra Company for Domestic Labor Recruitment.
