KUWAIT: Reflective of the strong relations binding the two countries, Kuwaiti investments in Germany have reached $18.3 billion according to recent statistics, Ambassador of Germany to Kuwait Karlfried Bergner said yesterday.

This statement came during a press conference held at the German embassy on the occasion of the beginning of Ambassador Bergner’s mission. The German diplomat affirmed that the embassy was working on plans to further develop ties between the two nations.

Ambassador Bergner lauded Kuwait’s regional efforts in helping refugees in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and elsewhere, adding that Germany would like to contribute and work with Kuwait to end humanitarian crises plaguing the Middle East region and the world.

Regarding his meetings with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and other Kuwaiti figures, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation towards the generous spirit of the Kuwaiti leadership and people, hoping that his tenure as Ambassador would further enhance bilateral relations.

According to German statistics, the number of Kuwaitis visiting Germany had increased by fourfold with some 60,000 visas issued recently, said the Ambassador. Bergner began his career in 1989, assuming several positions at the German diplomatic missions in Madrid and Washington. —KUNA
