local1BEIRUT: The visiting chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr Hilal Al-Sayer yesterday reiterated support to Lebanon regarding the Syrian refugees in the country. In a statement to KUNA following talks with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Samir Mokbel, Sayer said that the KRCS would carry on with their efforts offering aid and relief supplies to the Syrian refugees.

He added that the meeting with Mokbel offered an opportunity to review the KRCS projects in Lebanon, as well as the role of all other Kuwaiti institutions to present assistance to refugees there and in other states. Kuwait is the biggest supporter to more than a million of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) Philippe Lazzarini has commended Kuwait's support to the refugees. In a statement to KUNA after a meeting with Al-Sayer, Lazzarini appreciated Kuwait's response to humanitarian appeals. He pointed out that Kuwait had hosted three international pledging conferences for Syria over the past three years. The meeting addressed the tragedy of the Syrian refugees, at home and abroad, and their future humanitarian needs, he added.

Media's role

Earlier, Sayer emphasized the important role of media to convey, to the world, Kuwait's approach and mythology to humanitarianism. Media is a key player in highlighting humanitarian work done by Kuwait, under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Sayer said in a press statement yesterday. He added media outlets are an essential partner that shed light on philanthropic work carried out not only by KRCS but also other organizations.

Earlier this month, KRCS celebrated its 50th anniversary by launching a photography exhibition that displayed pictures covering years of activities since its establishment in 1966. The exhibition was an effort of publicizing KRCS' illustrious works and underscoring Kuwait's firm commitment to humanitarian causes. KRCS will always be relentless in its efforts to serve the world of humanity. - KUNA
